Frequently asked questions...
What is the Kent Charity Trek?
The Kent Charity Trek is a fantastic annual charity walking event that brings people together to support amazing Kent-based charities, including Kent Search & Rescue (KSAR).
It’s a rewarding challenge set in beautiful countryside, with every step helping to make a real difference locally.
What distances can I walk?
You can choose the distance that suits you best — either a 25km trek or a more challenging 50km trek. Both routes showcase some of Kent’s most scenic landscapes, and you’re welcome to walk at your own pace.
Who can take part?
Everyone is welcome! The trek is open to walkers of all abilities, whether you’re taking on your first long walk or are an experienced hiker. You can walk solo, with friends, family, or as part of a team.
Do I have to pick which distance to walk?
We ask everyone to choose their distance when registering to help us plan the event. If your plans change closer to the day, just let us know — we’re happy to help where we can.
Is the trek timed or competitive?
Not at all. The Kent Charity Trek isn’t a race — it’s about enjoying the challenge, taking in the scenery, and being proud of what you achieve, whatever your pace.
Can I run rather than walk?
The event is designed as a walking challenge, with support planned around walkers’ pace. If you do choose to run, please be aware that you may move ahead of scheduled support points.
What time does the trek start?
Start times are staggered to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone. Full details will be shared before the event, along with a safety briefing to make sure you feel confident and ready to go.
What time does the trek finish?
We aim for all walkers to finish comfortably by 11:00pm. If needed, event control may assist with transport or adjusted finish points to ensure everyone completes the trek safely.
Is there parking at the start?
Yes, convenient parking is available at both start locations, with clear guidance provided in advance. Minibus transport back to each start point is also available to make your day as smooth and stress-free as possible.
Is there a registration fee?
Yes, the entry fee is £55 per person. This helps cover event costs and ensures the trek is safely and professionally supported throughout the day.
How will I know the route?
The route is clearly signposted, with friendly volunteer marshals at key points to guide and encourage you. You can also download maps in printable and GPX formats, or follow our Google Maps guide on the day. We’ll always keep you informed of any last-minute changes.
Visit our Routes and Maps page to download your resources.
What should I wear or bring?
Comfort is key. Wear comfortable walking shoes and clothing suitable for the weather.
Bringing water, snacks, and any personal medical items will help you enjoy the day even more.
Check out our Trek Essentials guide for more information about what to pack and bring with you.
Will there be support on the route?
Absolutely. You’ll be well supported from start to finish, with friendly marshals, water stations, snacks, and first-aid assistance available along the route to keep you safe and motivated.
What happens if the weather is bad?
The trek usually goes ahead in most weather conditions, adding to the sense of adventure! If conditions are unsafe, we’ll always put participant safety first and keep everyone informed.
What happens if I want to drop out?
We hope everyone completes their chosen distance, but if you’re unable to continue, you’ll never be left on your own. Our mobile support teams are on hand to help, and your safety will always be our priority.
What happens if I have a medical incident or injury?
Your safety is extremely important to us. Our Kent Search & Rescue volunteers are trained first aiders and can quickly contact event control. Mobile medical teams will also be available throughout the route. In an emergency, please call 999.
Can friends and family support walkers on the route?
Yes — support is very welcome! Friends and family are encouraged to come along, cheer you on, and celebrate your achievement, though vehicle access may be limited in certain areas for safety.
Can I use other fundraising platforms other than Enthuse?
To keep everything simple and secure, we use Enthuse as our official fundraising platform. This helps us manage participants easily and ensures funds are tracked and distributed correctly.
Does my chosen charity get 100% of the money raised?
All funds raised go towards supporting Kent-based charities. To help cover event costs, funds are shared on a 70/30 basis between the chosen charity and Kent Search & Rescue (KSAR). KSAR is also a charity, so every pound raised supports vital local causes.
Do I need to raise a minimum amount of sponsorship?
There’s no minimum fundraising requirement. We simply encourage you to raise what you can — every pound you raise helps support vital local charities and is hugely appreciated.
Can I walk with my dog?
Yes — well-behaved dogs are very welcome and even receive their own finisher’s medal! Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times, and owners should ensure their dog’s comfort and welfare throughout the trek.
How will you know I am taking part while on the route?
You’ll check in at the start and receive a Kent Charity Trek branded t-shirt, goodie bag, and participant number. Wearing your number helps our team support you throughout the day — and it looks great in photos!
How will I identify trek staff and marshals?
Our friendly team will be easy to spot. Event staff wear Kent Charity Trek branded hi-vis vests, and route marshals are trained volunteers from Kent Search & Rescue and partner organisations. Medical teams from BM Ambulance Group Ltd will also be clearly identifiable.
